Description

Scaviho

The partner company of Cidatum Encore Lab (the company responsible for developing Cesens) is participating alongside Maetierra in the project SCAVIHO – Scalable Vegetation Index and Harvesting Forecaster – funded by the European Commission in the project for Cascade Funding AIU4COPERNICUS, which aims to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and Earth observation using data from the Copernicus satellites.

The project uses the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) used in precision agriculture to assess the overall condition of crops. NDVI values range from 0 to 1, and although extreme values are readily interpreted by farmers as signs of crop problems (lack or excess of water or nutrients), intermediate values during the growth stage are not used because they are difficult to interpret, even though they can reveal important information about the crop’s development.

Benefits

The primary objective of the project is expand the intermediate NDVI values corresponding to a crop's growth stage and providing a scale based on the crop's phenological stage in order to help farmers assess growth trends, identify hidden problems, and predict harvest dates based on historical data from the Sentinel-2 satellite.
