AERTIC Changes Its Name and Creates CIDATUM

Born Digital La Rioja to promote La Rioja's digital economy as a driver of economic and social development

After nearly two decades of creating, promoting, and consolidating La Rioja’s technology ecosystem, AERTIC is evolving toward Digital La Rioja, which will be the brand that gives the business association its name. Within it, the following is created: CIDATUM Data Research Center, which will serve as both a cluster and a research center, with the aim of gaining access to all kinds of projects, tools, grants, and partnerships.

Last Saturday, December 12, AERTIC held its 29th Assembly, during which the association’s new identity was presented and approved, along with the sector’s roadmap for the coming years in light of the new context, new projects, and opportunities presented by the digital economy.

Nearly 20 years of driving the digital economy

La Rioja’s technology sector, digitalization, and digital economy have established themselves as the driving force behind the region’s digital transformation, fueling business, economic, and employment growth in the sector. Between 2018 and 2025 alone, the number of member companies rose from 83 to 105, while combined revenue increased from 243.1 million euros to 473.1 million. Employment has also seen significant growth, rising from 2,138 professionals to 5,698. During this period, the association has managed 108 R&D&I projects with a combined investment of over 138 million euros, which has helped attract external funding and foster collaboration among a large number of its 105 member companies on joint initiatives.

AERTIC was founded in 2006 as a business association to raise the profile of the ICT sector and improve worker training; it began with 31 companies. In 2010, it evolved into a cluster to boost R&D and foster competitiveness within the sectors; at that time, it specialized in two areas: agri-food and Internet services. Between 2015 and 2022, it implemented two strategic plans and obtained and maintained the “Cluster of Excellence” designation. In 2025, AERTIC will evolve into Digital La Rioja and creates the CIDATUM Data Research Center to take advantage of the opportunities for development in the digital economy. The context leading to this change includes the following aspects:

As part of La Rioja Digital, the following emerges: CIDATUM Data Research Center which is both a research center and a cluster, and was created to promote socioeconomic development through research in digital technologies. It was founded within La Rioja Digital and serves as both a cluster and a research center.

Also, coming soon, CIDATUM It will be registered in the Registry of Technology Centers and Technology Innovation Support Centers of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, in order to gain access to all types of projects, tools, grants, and collaborations.

CIDATUM's activities are organized into three strategic pillars:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Development of machine learning and deep learning algorithms for analytical, predictive, and prescriptive applications.
  • Internet of Things (IoT). Integration of smart devices and sensor networks for real-time data capture, processing, and analysis.
  • Cloud edge computing. Efficient models for data storage and processing in the cloud and at the network edge. The infrastructure that underpins the data economy.
  • Quantum technologies. We will gradually incorporate quantum computing into our research to solve complex problems in optimization, cryptography, and simulation that are beyond the capabilities of classical computing.
